Membership Selection
STAFF SELECTION
The Fordham Law Review selects approximately fifty-nine staff members each year on the basis of grades and the Fordham Unified Writing Competition. Membership on the Fordham Law Review is open to all first-year Fordham law students and transfer students who participate in the Unified Writing Competition and meet the class standing requirements.
GRADES
The Fordham Law Review offers positions to approximately twenty-eight students on the basis of first-year grades. Although selected on the basis of grades, these students must participate in the Unified Writing Competition. These students must turn in a submission that complies with the rules of the Writing Competition and put in a good faith effort in order to remain eligible for a position as a staff member.
UNIFIED WRITING COMPETITION
The Fordham Law Review also offers positions to approximately thirty-one students on the basis of their submissions to the Unified Writing Competition. The Fordham Law Review evaluates the submissions of those students ranking in the top 33% of the class who have not already been selected on the basis of grades. Students remain anonymous during this process. This year, the regular writing competition will take place from Sunday, May 19, 2013 to Thursday, May 23, 2013. The Alternate Writing Competition will take place from Friday, May 24, 2013 to Tuesday, May 28, 2013.
2013 Unified Writing Competition Rules
TRANSFER STUDENT SELECTION
Students who are planning to transfer to Fordham University School of Law and would like to be considered for membership on the Fordham Law Review are invited to take part in the Transfer Writing Competition. Up to three transfer students entering second year in the day division or second or third year in the evening division may be selected on the basis of a submission to the Transfer Writing Competition. The Transfer Writing Competition typically takes place over Labor Day Weekend; specific dates will be announced shortly. There is no alternate competition. Transfer students must fall into one of the following two categories to be eligible for Staff membership on the Fordham Law Review:
(1) the student was invited, on the basis of scholarship, to join the law review at the law school from which the student transferred or
(2) the student placed in the top twenty-five percent of the class at the law school from which the student transferred.
